Moved further in the direction I’m working towards for another map project. Limiting the black key-line to the base of the design helps guide the viewer more easily than my last design for the series. Better overall contrast/element distinguishing = better legibility. Pulled inspiration from <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/maraid/sets/72157594234429063/with/2054588599/" title="matchboxes">this set</a> of matchboxes I came across. Really liked the simple illustration/limited color/registration to define image versus using a line to define shapes, which is something I naturally tend to do — so it was nice to force myself out of my comfort zone. I also limited myself to three colors in addition to three shades of black and layered them to create additional colors/mimic the print process. I’ll try to utilize this more in future works.
